DGR100 Series FAQ's

These Frequently asked Questions apply to the DGR100 Series family of Digital Video Recorders. This includes the DGR100 (1 Channel), DGR104 (4 Channel) and DGR116 (16 Channel) units.

Q:       How long can I record for?
A:        This depends on the HDD size, as well as the Quality and Frame Rate settings being used. Click here for a chart showing the expected record times based on your configuration.

Q:       Can I view live and recorded video over a network or the internet?
A:        No, the DGR100 series are stand-alone units with no network viewing or control capabilities. The DGR200 series DVR's do have an Ethernet interface for network support.

Q:       What is the RS-232/485 interface used for?
A:        This allows the DVR to be controlled via the Serial port on a PC or a RS-485 keypad device. ASCII commands are sent to the DVR to allow the user to remotely perform any function that would typically be preformed via the front DVR buttons. (Example PLAY, PAUSE, RECORD, FF, etc) Please see Application Note # 001 for further information
NOTE: This connection does not provide remote viewing.

Q:       What is the maximum hard disk size supported?
A:        This depends on the DVR model being used. The DGR100 supports up to 120GB. The DGR104 supports up to 300GB. The DGR116 supports up to 120GB x 2. The single and 16 channel units will support larger HDD's on future revisions. Please check back here for new information as it changes. For a list of compatible HDD's based on your model, please click here.

Q:       Is the hard drive hot-swappable?
A:        No, the HDD's are not hot-swappable in these DVR's. When removing the hard drive, please power the system down prior to doing so. Please note that the DGR200 series drives are hot-swappable.

Q:       How do I store video on a CD-ROM or VHS tape?
A:        Please refer to External Video Retrieval for an overview and instructions on how to do so.

Q:       Do the DVR's have built in video motion detection for recording activation?
A:        Currently only the 4 channel unit (DGR104) supports motion detect recording.

Q:       Why is the 'Alarm' LED illuminated?
A:        This LED will be ON during normal operation to indicate that the alarm input(s) are enabled. To disable the alarm inputs if not being used, perform the following steps:
On the DGR100, go into the Menu>Alarms and set 'Alarm Enable' to NO.
For the DGR104 and D116, enter the Menu>Cameras section and set 'Alarm' to OFF for each camera.

Q:       Is the DGR100 Multiplexer compatible?
A:        Yes the unit is compatible with most multiplexers. Please refer to the Multiplexer compatibility chart for a list of approved models.

Q:      When using the DGR100 with an ATV Multiplexer, I am unable to view the setup menu display from the DVR.
A:        On the ATV multiplexers, you must press and hold the VCR button for 3 seconds to be able to view the display.

Q:       Is the DGR100 compatible with an analog video switcher?
A:       Currently this is not supported. As the video switches between cameras, a 'video loss' will occur on each switch. This will cause the buzzer to sound and lead to problems with recording.
Note: This issue will be addressed on upcoming units in the very near future.

Q:      What Hard Drives are compatibe with the DGR100 Series DVRs?
A:       The DGR100 Series requires an IDE type hard drive(s). Please refer to the Hard Drive compatibilty chart for a list of approved models.
